Sachin Tendulkar's 14000 Runs in Test Cricket
Bangalore: Marcus North’s fighting 128 and Tim Paine’s stubborn 59 guided Australia to a massive first innings total of 478 runs, but day two of the Test match belonged to Sachin Tendulkar. The batting legend added one more record in his kitty when he crossed the 14000-run mark in Tests.
As Tendulkar neared the landmark, the crowd began to get restless and started cheering every run in way of the milestone. Rocking on back foot, Tendulkar finally cut a Nathan Haurtiz delivery towards the point boundary and brought up the landmark in style.
The spectators in the stands at the Chinnaswamy stadium roared and Indian flags waved all across the arena. The master batsman, looked up, thanked the gods and acknowledged his audience by raising his bat. Even, Australian captain, Ricky Ponting could not help but applaud at the huge feat that Sachin had just achieved.
And as if to celebrate the occasion, Tendulkar thumped the next ball for a boundary again. The shot looked almost the replay of the one which had taken him across the 14000-run mark.
Tendulkar finished the day unbeaten on 44 runs, along with opener Murali Vijay who was on 42. Sachin came into bat when India had lost both Virender Sehwag (30) and Rahul Dravid (1) in quick succession. The master calmed fraying nerves in the dressing room by arresting the slide and playing sensibly.
Sachin has obviously become the first cricketer ever to scale the 14k peak. Only eight batsmen in Test cricket have scored more than 10,000 runs and the table of the most runs scorer in lead by Tendulkar. Let us put Sachin’s record under perspective by taking a look at the list of the run machines in Test cricket.
